Hey Mate,I started playing probably two months ago, have loved it ever since. I started playing on 'The Center' which was a free dlc map.

Not sure if it still is. That was awesome. I would suggest starting on a PVE server as well, there are heaps within the internal server browser for ARK. I would advise playing on a server which has increased rates (by this I mean, you gather resources faster, you tame dino's faster and you level up faster).

Tried swimming to main land and got eaten by a large fish/dolphin thing.

Totally agree. The earliest phases where you have basically nothing and everything is dangerous is one of the best survival experiences out there. The game bogs down once you start the super long tames or are having to protect your base somehow while you sleep. Obey The Fist! writes.. I'd love to run a game where there's no fliers. If you want my advice, the best way to find Australians is to pick good private servers – you can tell the aussie hosted servers by the low pings in the server browser. The official servers are very griefy and there's no telling where the players on them will be from. Did you get your face eaten off by a dinosaur the first time you tried to play?
